What are the blood vessels of the body? Give brief
details about ONE type
..
Blood vessels are long narrow tube like structures found in body specialised for circulating blood.
There are five types of blood vessels - arteries, arterioles, capillaries, veins and venules.
Arteries are blood vessels which carry blood away from the heart.
The small branches of arteries are known as arterioles.
Veins are blood vessels which carry blood towards the heart.
The small branches of veins are known as venules.
Capillaries are very thin, small vessels which connect venules and arterioles.
Arteries -
Arteries take blood away from the heart, they supply nutrients and oxygen to the body tissues and organs.
They have thick walls and narrow lumen. Their walls have three layer - tunica externa which is a connective tissue layer, middle layer known as tunica media which is thick muscular layer and inner layer known as tunica interna which is inner layer lined by endothelial cells.
The flow of blood inside the arteries flow with higher pressure as compared to other blood vessels.
