Arteries are the blood vessels that carry blood away from the heart. They have thick musculature that helps in bearing high blood pressure inside them.
The layers present in arteries are tunica externa on outer side,tunica media in the middle and tunica intima on the inner side. The lumen region of the arteries get narrow by deposition of the low density lipoproteins. This disease is known as atherosclerosis.
Arteries have smaller diameter then the veins. The largest artery of the human body is aorta.
