why are Diseases affecting striated muscle cells lethal ?
Striated muscles are the category of the muscles that has a striations on it. It's due to the appearance of dark and light bands. They are formed by the dark filament myosin and the light filament myosin. The skeletal muscle tissue and cardiac muscle tissue belongs to this group. If the disease is affecting the contraction of the sarcomere of these muscles it will be difficult for these muscles to contract. The cardiac system will be affected in such cases and heart may be incompatible to pump and may lead to mortality. The other option is to affect the skeletal muscle. They are the voluntary muscle that is responsible for movement. So we need to know how these voluntary muscle will affect our health. The diaphragm in the respiratory system is made up of skeletal muscles. These muscles are are responsible to make us breath. So if a disease that cause skeletal muscle degradation and fibrosis development will also affect the respiratory system. It will be much difficult for us to breath and such patients will need ventilatory support for breathing. So it will affect oxygen transportation to tissues and may lead to the death of that patient.
