There are many more infections and diseases that are affecting people in the United States and around the world that were not included in the readings. Pick one and describe three actions you could put in place to create awareness or control the spread of these infections and diseases in an early childhood program.

Enterovirus infection is one of the infections that occur during summer and fall. This includes poliovirus and nonpolio virus (coxsackievirus, enterovirus, echovirus). In 2014, the United States has met with a large outbreak of enteroviral infection. Because it is difficult to identify initially as it seems like a common cold, but it threatens into encephalitis, myocarditis and even neonatal sepsis if not treated properly. This will increases the healthcare cost.

Three Actions to create awareness and to control the infection:

  1. Establish campaigns for early detection and diagnosis.
  2. Provide vaccination camp in the schools so the missing of vaccination cannot occur.
  3. Health educates the parents about the disease condition and its complication and makes aware to stay back at home when the person is sick. Educate the children to cover the mouth while coughing or sneezing. Avoid touching of nose and mouth without handwashing.
