Using the internet, find examples of IS projects that have failed. Were these easy to find? if not, explain some of the reasons why organizations do not publicize project failures.

Few examples of IS projects that have failed has been listed below:

1) A German pro basketball team was relegated to a lower division due to a Windows update.

2) A large drug wholesaler failed large implementation of Enterprise Resource Planning.

3) A $2 billion air traffic control system failed due to insufficient computer memory.

4) The Queensland Health New Payroll System Fiasco.

5) The Ariane 5 launch became one of the biggest information technology failure.

It was not that much easy to find.

Reasons why organizations do not publicize project failures are as follows:

  • As the projects were high budget, its failure cost high loss to the organizations. Also it will make bad impact on the public.
  • One more reason is poor planning and implementation.
  • Dominance of IT specialists' own interest.
  • Data Limitation.
  • Poor management of the organization/s.
  • Inaccurate estimates.

Above are some reasons why organizations do not publicize project failures. If they had publicize project failures then it would be the matter of self-respect and dignity for them.
