Using the discussion preparation, choose two employment laws and examine the impact of each law on human resources management (HRM). Support your response with specific examples of each selected law’s impact on HRM
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) is a federal law that establishes a minimum wage and requirements for overtime pay and child labor. Some states have laws that specifying minimum wages however, employers must pay whichever rate is higher. FLSA also require employers to pay employees who work beyond 40 hours per week overtime. That overtime is one and half times the employee’s usual hourly rate. The FLSA prohibits employers to hire children so that they can pay lower wages, so the FLSA protects children’s health, safety and educational opportunities. Failure of HR professionals to comply with the FLSA can lead to penalties and back pay to employees. HR professionals should continuously verify that they are complying with the Federal Labor Standard Act.
The second employment law is Workers’ Compensation that is a state program that provide benefits to workers who are injured on the job. They also aid in the employees return to the job with accommodations and or trainings.
