Some states have laws that specifying minimum wages however, employers must pay whichever rate is higher. FLSA also require employers to pay employees who work beyond 40 hours per week overtime. That overtime is one and half times the employee’s usual hourly rate. The FLSA prohibits employers to hire children so that they can pay lower wages, so the FLSA protects children’s health, safety and educational opportunities.
