1. Give an in depth explanation on how Le Chatelier's Principle affects equilibrium.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Le Chatelier's Principle is defined as any parameter is changed on (Pressure, temp, concentration) equilibrium state. then the equilibrium adjusted itself towords, the changed factor is nullified side or reduced side.

Effect of Concentration ----------   when increases concentration of reactants or decreases the concentration of products. the equilibrium shifts towords the right side ie, formation of products side.

when increses the concentration of productrs or decreses the concentration of reactants , the equilibrium shifts towords to the left side, ie backword reaction.

N2 + 3H2 ----------- 2NH3

Increase the concentrations of N2 and H2 or decreses the concentration of NH3, the equilibrium adjust to the formation of NH3 side.

Pressure effect ----------------- when pressure is increases on equilibrium condition . the equilibrium adjusted towords to the number of moles decresed side.

when pressure is decreses on equilibrium conditon , the equilibrium adjusted towords to the number of moles increased side.

N2 + 3H2 ------------------- 2NH3

when pressure is increses the equilibrium adjusted towords to the forword side because to this direction number of moles are decresed i.e 1+3 ------------ 2

Temperature effect ---------------- Exothermic reactions are favoured at low temperatures and endothermic reaction are favoured at high temperatures.

N2 + 3H2 ------------ 2NH3            Delta H = -92KJ/mole

formation of NH3 is an exothermic reaction . So the high yielding is getting at low temperatues.
