Please, discuss the implications of different network topologies and business benefits. Be very specific and link to existing technologies. IF you know of cases or situations that you have worked on or observed, it is a plus to the assignment.

Solutions

Expert Solution

  • Network topology is a representation of the configuration of nodes ( e.g. network switches and routers) and network links.
  • Network topologies describe how the nodes are linked together and how the information is transmitted from one node to another.
  • The network topology map represents that allows the administrator to see the physical network configuration of the devices connected. Holding a network topology chart on hand is very important for understanding how devices attach to each other and the appropriate troubleshooting methods.
  • Different kinds of topology are bus topology, ring topology, star topology, Tree topology mesh topology, and hybrid topology.

Bus Topology

  • Easy layout and cheap but sensitive to failure and suitable only for low passenger numbers. Not being used for office networks today, but it can still be identified in some consumer items.

Ring Topology

  • Simple to handle and with minimal risk of collision, but dependent on all nodes being wired up and in full working order. It's hardly seen nowadays.

Star Topology

  • All nodes are transmitted to a central switch, making it easy to add new nodes without reactivating all currently connected devices. This topology makes cable usage effective and is easy to handle. The wellbeing of the turn, on the other hand, is important. This topology needs to be controlled and maintained. Even so, it is a topology that is commonly occurring.

Tree Topology

  • A relational layout that connects groups of nodes together. Generates parent-child dependency among root nodes and regular nodes. This architecture can be prone to risks if the root node has a problem. This topology is complex and hard to control.

Mesh Topology

  • Each node is linked to any other mode with a direct connection. This topology provides a very stable network, but requires a huge number of cable and is difficult to maintain. Wi-Fi networks enable this topology more practical.

Hybrid Topology

  • Blends two or more traditional topologies. This can be a perfect option to easily put together various existing networks into a single framework.
  • Starti topology is the perfect cabled network topology for large companies. That's because it's easier to monitor from the centralized server because the management system only needs to connect with the switch to get complete traffic management functionality. Hybrid topology is often experienced as a temporary solution for linking departments together while a fully integrated structure is being developed.
  • For small businesses, bus topology is the lowest cost and most effective topology because it can be operated without purchasing specialized network equipment and does not rely on any node being involved.
