Here are some reasons why employee complain about performance
appraisal system,.
- The most complain is about employee’s biasness. The employees
get rating as per their performance by their reporting managers but
most employee claim that the favorites of the managers get the good
rating. Favoritism ruins the effectiveness of performance appraisal
system.
- Second reason is Hypocrisy. It is when the
managers do not follow the rules, regulations and guidelines of the
company and do whatever they feel like. This generates distrust
among the employees.
- Another reason is Poor Informal Feedback. After the rating the
employees are supposed to get feedback from the managers. The
feedbacks should be positive in order to motivate the employees.
But managers do not provide it the same. There is disconnection
between the employee’s and the reporting managers about the
feedback.
- Some managers give undeserved candidate higher rating
just to ignore the conflicts. And the deserving candidates
do not get that because it is not possible to give higher rating to
all the employees. There is a limitation in ratings. For an
example, if 5 ratings are available for higher rating then only 5
employees will get not all the employees. Hence this is again a
reason.
- Some appraisals are not based on data and dependent on the
memory of the manager. The reporting manager forgets the pas
performance and rate as per the current performance. For an example
ratings are given quarterly. The manager forgets the performance of
1st and 2nd month and gives the rating as per
the 3rd month performance. If the employee has performed
very well in 1st and second month and somehow he or she
has not done well in 3rd month then the probability is
that the manager will give him or her a poor rating. This is again
a complaint of appraisal system
