Explain the relationship among bias, prejudice, stereotyping, and discrimination. (200 words)
Bias means treating one thing better than the other, it comes in
many forms which includes gender,ethnicity,age,race etc. The Biased
individual believes that they are applying the other people are
right without regard for the truth. Bias is the tendency or the
preference towards particulars ideology or perspective,
The unchecked bias will lead to prejudice. An individual behaves in
a prejudicial manner when she or he has an emotional reaction to
the another individual or the team of individuals based on the
preconceived ideas about the individual or the team. Prejudiced
individual thinks about other solely in terms of their stereotypes.
Prejudice is a consequence of people in not able to realize the
limitations in their ethnocentric and stereotypical thinking.
Prejudice sometimes leads to stereotype. Stereotypes are defined as
it is a generalized images we have about groups of people,specially
about their underlying personality traits
or psychological characteristics. It is about judging
the people on the once's perception of a group to which she or he
belongs to. These both prejudice and the stereotype will lead to
someone treating others who are member of a specific group
unequally, it is called as discrimination. Discrimination is an
unjustified negative behaviors toward individual or team based on
their group membership.
