out of vegetable oil, peanuts, olive oil, butter, corn oil and coconut oil which is saturated fat . which is monounsaturated fat and which is polyunsaturated fat?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Saturated fat is just like a building which is made of solid bricks i.e.,tightly packed bonds. The bonds are often solid at room Foods that contain more saturated fat are usually solid at room temperature and are sometimes called “solid” fat. Examples Butter, Coconut oil

Unsaturated fat is like a chain i.e., which contains loose bonds which tend to move ,bend and flow. So these are called as “fluid” fat. These are of two types Polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fat “Poly” means many unsaturated chemical bonds and “mono” means one unsaturated chemical bond.

Polyunsaturated oils are liquid at room temperature and in the refrigerator. Common sources of polyunsaturated fat are safflower, sesame and sunflower seeds, corn and soybeans, many nuts and seeds, and their oils.

Monounsaturated oils are liquid at room temperature but start to solidify at refrigerator temperatures. Canola, olive, and peanut oils, and avocados are sources of monounsaturated fat.
