Mitosis
It is a type of asexual reproduction in which two identical cells are formed from the parent cell.
Chromosomes numbers remain same each resulting diploid cell.
Mitosis occur in all organisms.
Genetically it produce identical organism to the parent.
Number of division is one.
Two daughter cells are produced.
It occur in both haploid and diploid cells.
Meiosis
It is a type of sexual reproduction in which the number of chromosomes are reduced to half.
It occur in those species which have sēxual reproduction in their cycle. For example humans, animals, plants and fungi.
It is a type of sèxual reproduction whereas mitosis is a type of asexùal reproduction.
Genetically the daughter cells are different from parent because of crossing over of chromosomes.
Also pairing of homologous chromosomes takes place.
Total number of divisions which occur are 2 which results in formation of 4 haploid cells.
It always occur in those cells which are diploid. Not occur in haploid cells.
