Meiosis ______ while mitosis _____

Meiosis ______ while mitosis _____

Fill in the blanks with the answer choices to correctly complete the sentence

  1. Exchange genetic information through crossing-over during prophase II ; never exchanges genetic information through crossing-over

  2. Goes through DNA replication twice ; goes through DNA replication once

  3. Produces 4 identical daughtur cells ; produces 2 identical daughter cells

  4. Will have tetrads at the metaphase plate during metaphase 1 ; Will have dyads at the metaphase plate during metaphase

  5. None of the above

Solutions

Expert Solution

Well none of the given statement is true

Because in meiosis crossing over occurs during prophase I (pachytene) and there is no crossing over in mitosis

DNA replication occurs only during S phase of interphase. The amount of DNA is reduced to half in meiosis and it remains the same in the daughter cells like their parental cells.

The 4 daughter cells produced in meiosis are not identical because two of them are recombinant and two are the parental types. However the daughter cells produced in mitosis are identical

The metaphase of meiosis has tetrad arranged at the metaphasic plate and the dyad is seen in metaphase II of meiosis that us after splitting in the anaphase I.
