A Cockroft-Walton type voltage multiplier has 6 stages with
capacitances, each having a value of 0.15μF. the voltage multiplier
is supplied using a step u high voltage transformer with the
secondary voltage at 250 kV(rms) at a frequency of 120 Hz. The load
current to be supplied is 5 mA.
i. Sketch neatly this 6 stage voltage multiplier.
ii. Calculate the percentage ripple.
iii. Determine the regulation.
iv. Find the optimum number of stages for minimum regulation or
voltage drop. The ripple factor and
v. Suggest how the ripple and regulation can be minimized.
