A steel cantilever member as shown below is subjected to a transverse load at its end that varies from 135 N to -45 N as axial load varies from 450 N to -110 N. Determine the required diameter at the change of section for infinite life using a factor of safety of 2. The strength properties of the material are:

Sut=550 MPa, Sy=470 MPa, Se(corrected)=275 MPa,

Test data indicate that the theoretical stress concentration factor for bending and axial loads are 1.44 and 1.63 respectively at the change of cross-section. All dimensions are in mm. Use Goodman failure locus. Assume notch sensitivity, q=1. Neglect transverse shear.

a member in a braced frame supports an axial compressive load and end moments that cause bending about both axes of member. A second order analysis was performed with factored loads and and reduced members stiffnesses to obtain the moments and axial forces. USE LRFD and selet the lightest W shape of A992 steel?
