What are the latest developments about HIV and AIDS ? What are the challenges today? What will the future look like?
It has been observed that the women would be more vulnerable to HIV at the time of pregnancy and also after giving birth. Though, much research has not been done on the risk that pregnancy has posed to women. It has been found that at the time of pregnancy, following birth, there has been an increase in the risk of women acquiring HIV, increased by three times. Where transmission had been 4.18 times more likely. This has been observed because of the biological changes that take place in the body of the female.
Also, there have been concerns regarding the use of prophylaxis to prevent HIV. Also, there has been increased research in the functional cure of HIV where viral suppression is being attempted. This suppression would not be with people to be taking daily anti retroviral medicines.
Challenges are: development of a full functional cure, as well as implementation of prophylaxis
The future might come up with a fully functional medicine.
