Provide at least four reasons, describe the recognition mechanisms and effector functions of NK cell.

Solutions

Expert Solution

NK cells also called as natural killer cells for large granular lymphocyte. Their work is to produce adaptive immune response.

The natural killer cells gives rapid response to the virus infected cells acting at around 3 days after infection. They also react to the growth of tumor formation.

They recognise the MHC ( major histocompatibility complex) on the surface of the infected cells and triggers the cytokinin release which in turn leads to lysis or atopsis .

The natural killer cells are very unique and helpful because they are are able to recognise the stressed cell even in the absence of MHC or antibodies. They give a very fast rapid immune system response.

They are very important because the harmful cells which lack MHC I markers cannot be detected and destroyed by other immune cells like t lymphocytes.

Functions-

Cytolytic granule mediated cell apoptosis.

Antibody dependent cell mediated cytotoxicity

Missing self hypothesis

Tumor cells surveillance

Adaptive features like memory

NK cell also functions in pregnancy
