How important was Ray Anderson’s leadership to enable Interface to be recognized as a global leader in sustainability? What economic benefits did Interface achieve through its sustainability initiatives?
Ray Anderson has been the founder of
the Interface company that makes carpet tiles. The biggest
contribution of Ray Anderson was to think about the sustainability,
its significance and give it a place in the vision of the Interface
so that the company works in a direction to achieve the
sustainability. The importance of Ray Anderson is that he made the
company management to think differently. For example, to prevent
the waste produced from the manufacturing of tiles, Ray Anderson
motivated to develop natural designs that is free from any specific
design patterns. It will reduce the burden to achieve a pattern in
design and waste formation will be eliminated. Further, Ray
Anderson prepared a team of emerging leaders in the organization
who could work on his visionary footprints to follow the
sustainability practices and rebrand the carpet tiles work as one
of the oily and dirtiest work to the clean and sustainable work in
the Interface. Hence, a strong organizational culture was set by
the founder member with the team who could continue to develop it
and spread it across its supply chain. These contributions were
most important by Ray Anderson as a leader.
There are different economic benefits Interface achieved. The first
benefit is the release of less carbon release in the form of
pollutants and it contributed to the preservation of ecosystems and
favourable climate change. The second benefit is the promotion of
greeneries as the look & shape of the factories are more like a
forest as per the plans of Interface. The third benefit is the
superior health of their employees and community due to the
sustainability practices of the company as clean and oil free work,
helps to give save and better work environment.
