1. Astronomers beleive that there is no planet in the asteroid belt region because
a. collisions in the asteroid belt break apart objects instead of letting these objects grow through accretion. |
b. the magnetic field of Jupiter prevented the material in the asteroid belt from gathering into a planet. |
c. the asteroid belt is highly inclined to the orbits of the planets so there was not enough material to form a planet. |
d. orbital resonances with Jupiter disrupted the orbits of polanetesimals in this region. |
a. The volcanoes on Io create fires on the surface that are visible from telescopes on Earth. |
b. Gases from volcanic activity condense and form a type of snow on Io that blows into drifts that have been photographed by satellites that have flown past Io. |
c. Debris from volcanic activity has covered over impact craters on its surface. |
d. The lava from the volcanoes has deposited metals on the surface that cause Io to reflect most of the sunlight that hits Io. |
1. The Asteroid belt between Jupiter and Mars is a souce of many of our meteorites. These meteorites and asteroids collectively have very small masses when compared to moon.
When these asteroids and meteorites are observed , they have different chemical compositions to one another. This means that these meteorites are formed from different parts of the asteroid belt and they ALL don't belong to a SINGLE common family.Instead, asteroids of common chemical composition cling together and form dfferent groups. These groups of asteroids are found to leave a gap within one another. These gaps are called as the Kirkwood Gaps. These gaps are formed in regions where they are in resonance with Jupiter. Jupiter's gravity is so strong that any asteroid in the resonance region would be unstable thus preventing the asteroids from forming into a single planet. This can be taken as a clue why a planet isn't formed where the asteroid belt is.
The answer is option D
2. The surface of Io is fully surfaced with sulphur and the atmosphere is of sulphur dioxide due to the volcanic activity. The atmosphere of sulphur dioxide is found to be dense and frozen when the.moon is under the shodow of Jupiter and again turn to gas with the heat when the sun hits Io. These dense white images of frost where captured by Voyager 1 and Voyager 2. I hope the explanation helps. The correct option is B.
