True or false? The asteroid belt is inside the Sun’s Roche limit and thus could not overcome the Sun’s tidal forces to form a planet.

True or false? The time interval when a specific comet’s tail is long is much less than the time interval when that comet’s tail is short.

True or false? The asteroid belt was probably produced when two large, fully formed terres-trial planets collided with and shattered each other.

True or false? Most meteor showers occur when a random comet or asteroid enters Earth’s atmosphere and then breaks up into many pieces.

True or false? Most of the Kuiper-belt objects are between the orbits of Neptune and the Oort cloud.

True or false? The peculiar distribution of certain types of Kuiper-belt objects suggests the gravitational influence of a very distant, massive “Planet Nine” that astronomers are now trying to find.

Solutions

Expert Solution

1. True .The asteroid belt is inside tha sun's roche limit. Roche limit refers to a space in which a selestial body held together using its own gravitational force. If there is a second selestial body whose gravitational force is much higher than that of the first, then the first body will disintegrate. So inside the roche limit of a celestial body, all the materiLs will disintegrate and will form a ring or belt. Whenever the materials are far away from the celestial body (here it is sun) , they tends to form a spherical shape..here the asteroid belt is inside the roche limit of sun.

3. False. Asteroid belt is seen between the planets mars and jupitor. It is made up rock and stones called as planetesimals. It can be thought of as a left over after the sun and all the planets have been formed.

4 True. Most of the meteor shower occurs when the earth enter into a group of meteoroids and they disintegrate into millions of parts.. Also by the entry of random comet and meteoroids.

5 .True. Kuiper belt is similar to the asteroid belt.bt it is located outside the solar system i.e, beyond neptune..so it is also called trans neptunic belt. It is elliptical in shape. Like asteeoid belt it is also made up of rocks and stones . Kuiper belt is actually a part of oort cloud.. Kuiper belt is considered as the origin of many comets.

6 . True NASA 's planet x mission found that some planets or icy bodys inside the kuiper belt may have its own satellite and thus gravitational force like pluto.they named as planet nine.it could explain the unique orbits of atleast five smaller objects discovered jn the kuiper belt

True or False. In order to use results from the Central Limit Theorem for calculating that the sample mean is greater than some number, the population you are sampling from must have a normal distribution. If a variable has a binomial distribution with the probability of success equal to 0.82, then the distribution is skewed to the left. For calculating the probability that a sample mean is greater than some given value, in solving this problem, one of the first...
