Discuss the endocrine regulation of one sex hormone: from the tropic hormone to the final sex hormone
- The male sEx hormone is testosterone produced by testes and the female sEx hormones are estrogen and progesterone produced by ovaries.
- GnRH (gonadotropin-releasing hormone) is secreted by hypothalamus which acts on the anterior pituitary gland to secrete FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone).
- LH produced by anterior pituitary gland travels via bloodstream and reach the testes to act on the leydig cells which synthesizes the male hormone testosterone. In females, LH surge during midway in the menstrual cycle causes ovulation which releases secondary occyte and converts the mature Graafian follilce into corpus luteum which secretes progesterone.
- FSH regulates the process of spermatogenesis in males and oogenesis in females. In females, the granulosa cells of developing ovarian follicle secretes the female hormone estrogen during the influence of hormone FSH from anterior pituitary gland.
