Manic, mixed and hypomanic episodes are symptoms that occur in bipolar disorder.

Manic symptoms are more severe and can reqire you to be hospitalized. They are accompnied by suddent outbust of extra energy. It leads the individual to be dysfunctional with others and harmful. Certain severe sympotms of mania can accompany delusional thoughts

In hypomania, one would have more enery than normal but not too much to get them hospitalized. It can hamper normal functioning but not to the harmful extent.

Both mania and hypomania exhibit decreased sleep, increased self-esteem, racing mind, increases sexual impulse and decreased attention.

Mixed episodes have both symptoms of mania and depression occuring in a rapid sequence.

Treatment for Bipolar disorder:

One treatment for bipolar disorder includes mood stabilizing drug and psychotherapy. They need to go hand in hand. The drug to better manage moods and psychotherapy to handle and cope with the mood when occurring later. Lithium carbonate is quite effective in reducing mania in bipolar patients. Lithium can be given along with other anti-depressants to reduce depression along with mania. Long term psychotherapy would enable the patient to handle the episodes better and keep a track of them. It also assists them to function well.
