Why is denaturation particularly a problem with DNA, explain with examples?
Denaturation of DNA causes problems in the functioning of it. The secondary and tertiary bonds holding the two strands of DNA by strong hydrogen bonds gets disrupted by denaturation by the act of acid or base and thus DNA denaturation occurs. Also the effect of temperature increase in the denaturation has been widely studies and resulting melting and destruction of DNA structure causes denaturation. The process of DNA strand separation and then reforming or regrowth is known as replication. The first step of replication is separation of double stranded DNA into single stranded structure mainly by heating which breaks the hydrogen bonds present between complementary bases in the structure.
