The benefit to having a well-constructed business continuity plan is often implicit. What is the best way to convince the management team to undertake such a plan?
Answer)
Business continuity plan is necessary to a company or an
organization to declare and maintain the most important and
essential components and modules of the business system, in case of
disasters we need to know which systems and the processes should be
working and are critical and important, we need to know how to
maintain systems of the business when any kind of disaster or
disruption occurs. Thus a business continuity plan is needed to
provide support to the business operations so that the business
keeps running even when some disruption occurs.
While the BCP has the benefits and the benefits are there and well-constructed and are implicit still we can point out the advantages of having a BCP in place in the organization and the disadvantages of not having BCP in the organization or business.
The 3 main advantages of the BCP are in the areas where the
measures are taken for:
a) Preventive Measures: measures where data is backed up or
preventive actions are taken to prevent the disasters
b) Detective Measures: measures where the detection of the disaster
or the disruption possible to the business is very important and
the focus is to detect the disaster
c) Corrective Measures: measures where the focus is once a disaster
has occurred, what actions can we take to correct the systems, such
that either the system does not get affected by the disaster or
makes a quick recovery from the disrupted situation
Thus having these measures in the business is very important. Thus we need to convince the management team that BCP can handle the business by taking care of the risks and these measures.
