How have the primary agents of social control changed from the pre-modern past to the modern present?
Please note, especially, how the techniques and agents of social control have changed throughout modern history?
Primary Social Control Agents- The individual experiences constant contact from outside forces that influence their behaviour—even before they are born. These outside forces are known as “agents of social control” for instance roles, positions, and institutions, Politics, Religion, and Education etc.
Effects of Social control agents in pre modern past to modern era:
(1) Education- Education is most effective social control agent as far as our educational system has improved, it helped to change the behaviour of community.
(2) Religion – Religion is an important factor of social changes so that it controlled the society and groups for a long time, before modern era the religion proposed conservative control over human thinking, perception and thinking.
(3) Politics - Politics is the response to natural social living in which disputes and problems arise that call for attention and resolution, an element of social control that refers to the cultural norms, ideas and values that moderate how people interact with each other in an orderly fashion. Politics can be identified as a form of externalized control by, though not exclusively, large-scale institutions and political leaders.
(4) Positions – the position of an individual in society also play a crucial role from pre modern to modern time, A well-positioned individual get the privileged from society while others don’t.
(5) Role- the role of an individual in society effects the social control by the society, Well accepted roles get special rights and option to modify freedom according to own way.
