Expert Solution

The mean, std deviation and no. of sample data points for 2005 and 2015 females survival data given, are as follows:

2005 2015
Mean 70.25871 73.80846
Std dev 10.5955 8.616187
n 201 201

Looking at the mean survival years for 2005 and 2015, we see that the mean survival rate seems to have increase from 2005->2015. As we do not know the population std deviations, let's do 2 sample paired (right tailed) T-test to test the hypotheses:

H0: μ1 - μ2 <= 0

Ha: μ1 - μ2 > 0

where μ1 is the mean population survival rate for 2005 and μ2 is the mean population survival rate for 2015.

Now, assuming we do the test at 5% significance level,

T-statistic, t = [ ( - ) - d ] / sqrt[(s1^2/n1) + (s2^2/n2)]

= - 3.684

Now, right-tailed critical T-score at alpha = 0.05 and df = 201+201-2 = 400,

T-critical, T0.05, 400 = -1.649

Since | t | > | T-critical |, we reject the null hypothesis at the 5% significance level. Hence, the mean survival years for females indeed seem to have statistically increased from 2005->2015.

The life expectancy for females in a certain country born during 1980−1985 was approximately 75.2 years. This grew to 76 years during 1985−1990 and to 76.2 years during 1990−1995. Construct a model for this data by finding a quadratic equation whose graph passes through the points (0,75.2),(5,76),and (10,76.2). Use this model to estimate the life expectancy for females born between 1995 and 2000 and for those born between 2000 and 2005. Let x be the number of years since 1980...

According to the historical data, the life expectancy in Argentina is equal to the life expectancy in Bolivia. A new study has been made to see whether this has changed. Records of 240 individuals from Argentina who died recently are selected at random. The 240 individuals lived an average of 74.6 years with a standard deviation of 4.6 years. Records of 250 individuals from Bolivia who died recently are selected at random and independently. The 250 individuals lived an average...

When looking at data on average life expectancy in different developed countries, the average life expectancy in the United States is significantly lower than that of many other developed countries. What are three factors that contribute to this lower life expectancy, and how are they related to each other? What is a realistic way to help reduce these problems?
