Wal-Mart is an international retail giant. The company operates on the principle of ’Every Day Low Price', often known as EDLP in Retail parlance. This is a discussion about the communication methods used in Wal-Mart and whether or not it helps executives to manage operations at Wal-mart.
The most often-used communication method in Wal-Mart is Verbal Communication. This is mostly face-to-face in nature, followed by usage through phones. Using this method of communication helps executives to get first hand information and realistic solutions. Employees also feel important when they get to speak to the top management.
The Communication Network launched by Wal-Mart is the largest private integrated satellite communication network in the world. It allows two-way voice and data and one-way video transmission between its headquarters and thousands of Wal-Mart stores. These managers can address thousands of their employees using this network. Moreover, every store is linked by voice and video due to availability of data. This enables communications from store-to-store and also from store-to-home office.
Using this network, stores can also send their pictures across. Hence, the top management can see any section of any store whenever they desire to do so. This also helps in implementing changes in look and feel as these can be shown visually using the network, without the executive having to physically travel to the store.
