Learning styles can be classified into the dimensions of multiple Intelligences proposed by Gardener (1983):
1. Aural (auditory/musical)
2. Visual (spatial)
3. Physical (kinesthetic)
4. Verbal (linguistic)
5. Logical (mathematical)
6. Solitary (intrapersonal)
7. Social (interpersonal)
No. 7, i.e. Social Learning style is the general principle employed in Group Learning. Individuals in a group can learn through any of the 1 to 6 learning styles. A general group lesson will include auditory information, along with visual processing involved in seeing the trainer or writing/videos displayed.
Some individuals may be good with some Learning styles, while others may not. At the same time, the others may have different learning styles which are their strengths.
Learning styles in a group play a major role in determining what is finally learnt, how well it is learnt and who have learnt it.
Trainers ideally must employ more teaching via two or more styles. This will not only solidify learning but will also cater to those who do not benefit much from certain learning styles like auditory or visual which are the most common channels of teaching.
