In an experiment to compare two diets for fattening beef steers, nine pairs of animals were chosen from the herd: members of each pair were matched as closely as possible with respect to hereditary factors. The members of each pair were randomly allocated, one to each diet. The following table shows the weight gains (Ib) of the animals over a 140 day test period on diet 1 (Y1) and on diet 2 (Y2). Pair Diet 1 Diet 2 1 596 498 2 422 460 3 524 468 4 454 458 5 538 530 6 552 482 7 478 528 8 564 598 9 556 456 (A) Construct a 99% confidence interval for the difference in mean treating the samples as paired. (B) Interpret the confidence interval.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Above problem is solved using Minitab, The output of minitab is attached below.

The 99% CI is (-49.3 , 95.1)

The confidence interval contains zero this implies that the diets doesn't show any significant results.

Results form both of diets are almost same.

1) What were the first animals like? 2) Compare the diversification of plants and animals. When do major body plans appear in these groups (for animals, think different phyla, and for plants, think algae/land plants/vascular plants/seed plants/angiosperms) and over how long a period of time do new plans appear)? 3) Why is bilateral symmetry strongly associated with cephalization, the concentration of the sense organs in an anterior ahead?

A researcher studied how two diets compare in terms of weight loss after 6 months. 40 people used the first diet. Their sample mean was 44, and their sample standard deviation was 10. 60 people used the first diet. Their sample mean was 37, and their sample standard deviation was 15. a) Give the 92% confidence interval for the true difference between the mean weight losses. b) Can we conclude that the two diets really differ in terms of the...

Choose 2 (TWO) of the following PAIRS of terms related to PLANTS to compare and contrast (this means that you need to explain both shared features and distinguishing features in the pair). You also need to include at least ONE specific phylum for each term. For example: microgametophyte and megagametophyte: These terms refer to organisms found in the 4 phyla of the the Gymnosperms and the Anthophyta in the plant Kingdom. The microgametophyte is contained within the pollen grain and...
