Research Question: What is the effect of gender on whether or not a student has a meal plan?
Using the variables Q7.1 (What is your gender?) and Q6.1 (Do you have a meal plan?) what is the appropriate test to determine whether gender has a significant effect on living situation (e.g., Chi-square, T Test, ANOVA, Correlation) and why (e.g., what type of variables are you analyzing)?
Here we can use the Chi Square test for independence with Null Hypothesis that the Gender and Satandard of living are independent that means - no relation between the two aspects . here the aspect are referred as categorical variable means the nominal variables, such as sex age group race etc., are considered as categorical variables and for such cases it will be good to use the non parametric test which is Chi square we are not using any parameter here only the observations,
We can form a contegency table of 2x2 size as there are only 2 possible values for the Gender aspect and the question Do you have a meal plan, We will be recording the frequency of each variable and this will be known as observed frequency and we will be having the expected frequency of row total x column total / total count
Then we can use the Chi swuare test statistic as and we will have the Value along with the degree of freedom of (r-1)(c-1) that is the row count -1 and column count -1
Here it is 2-1x2-1= 1x1=1 so degree of freedom will be 1 and we can find the table value of Chisquare using this and if the calculated value is more that the table value we need to reject the null hypothesis mean there is no effect on gender on life style and other wise , Yes there is a relation
