what is the effect that poverty has over gender inequality
The effect of poverty is so adversely effective on the women. Ages after ages women have been victim of poverty rather than men. They are tortured by both the society and family. Such discrimination is done on the basis of gender.
Girl child marriage: Child marriage is a major problem and it is a product of poverty. The parents of the girl in the poor family think the girls as the burden of the family. They think that girls can never support the family economically. But boys do not face such problem.
Lack of education: The girl children of the poor family do not get chance of education. In spite of their quality and ability, they do not get chance of education. On the contrary, the boy children are given chance to build their career.
Malnutrition: Girl children of the poor family suffer from malnutrition. It causes many duseases and they are really sufferer. Even they die prematurely. It is surprising enough the male children of the family are provided comparatively good and nutritious food.
Profession: It is also true that due poverty many girl children are engaged as maid servant to support their family. It is also surprising and shocking matter is that they are even victim of rape. Many girl children are forced to take the profession of prostitution. But in case of male children there is not such problem.
Wage discrimination: The poor women are forced to work in different places. But surprising enough they are not proper wage as they deserve. On the other hand, men are paid more salary.
Social discrimination: The poor people are victim of social discrimination. Specially poor women are victim of this. They are tortured in various ways. A maid servant is paid very low wage and her social status is really poor. In the third world countries this problem is really apparent in every sphere of the society. In the countries where religion takes dominant position in ruling system, there the condition of the women of the poor family is really pathetic.
However many steps have been taken to improve the situation. All the states emphasize the issue of the upliftment of the poor women. Besides, gender discrimination is also reduced now.
