You have been asked to design a resistance training program for an experienced weight lifter who is training for maximal power. Briefly explain the importance of repetition velocity in power development

Solutions

Expert Solution

Repetition velocity is the most important method to improve the strngth and rate of force development. Now a days because of the availability of linear position transducers and inertial measurement units.

The repetition velocity is measured during the resistance training. The repetition velocity helps to induce changes in muscular strength, hypertrophy and power. In the past, exercise intensity and the degree of effort have been measured. But for the importance of sports related performance, it is important to measure the velocity during the concentric portion of the repetition cycle of the major strength exercises together with creation of the velocity/ load profile. The main goal is to normalize the intensity of exercise.

It allows an optimal training on an individualized basis. It also helps to identify the athlete's progression. It helps to train the athletes with repetitive failures. It has its advantages to focus on the weaker portion of a sports person an make them adapt in a better way. This method allows to estimate the daily readiness and also monitors the decrease in velocity within each set to manage the accumulation of fatigue.
