Describe a time that you encountered an unethical speaker (preferably in a public situation, but a small group or interpersonal situation will suffice). How was the speaker speaking unethically? What tipped you off that they were speaking unethically? What could they have done differently to avoid being unethical?
There was a situation when I encountered an unethical speaker in
the society meeting where the elections were going on for the next
society secretary. In that meeting, each candidate was given a
chance to ask for a vote from the members to be the next secretary.
Among all, there was also the former secretary who was
participating as a candidate.
The speaker was speaking unethically by making promises to the
members like the last time he made. he was asking for their votes
in the exchange of some benefits like allowing a delay in paying
bills and social gathering after 10 pm on the society roof.
The thing that tipped me off while he was speaking was that he was
making all the false promises again and fooling members like he did
the last time. Lying, not fulfilling the society norms, and not
follow the responsibilities are some of the unethical conduct that
I have faced before, and the same thing he is claiming now.
The candidate could have been science, true, and decent while
making all the promises to the members. another thing he could have
done is to apologize for the last time when he did not fulfill all
the promises made. A sincere way of taking and avoiding false
promises would have certainly avoided being unethical speaking.
