Explanation: In this method, physically combined components of a liquid mixture is made to get distributed between two different phases-stationary phase and the mobile phase.The stationary phase is adsorbing substances like cellulose paper(used in paper chromatographic methods) or silica gel or alumina (used in column chromatography to separate liquids).The mobile phase is the solvent that selectively brings the components of the mixture along with it as it move through the stationary phase, basis the comparative dissolution of the components in the solvent.
