Metro Rail

• Mass transit system
• Fast as well as efficient system
• It can be considered as rapid transit system as well as a system with high capacity and independent with respect to other traffic
• Metro rails has two rails similar to that of other trains but are faster than them
• Pantographs are being used by Metro rails
• They can be underground as well as over ground metro rail system
• They make use of electric power for propulsion (electrical multiple unit)
• They have a speed of around 135 kmph

Mono Rail

• Mass transit system
• Fast as well as efficient system
• It is a single rail system which provides for the support and act as the guide way
• It provides fast time connection between two points
• Pantographs are not being used by monorail
• Monorails can be mainly classified as straddle beam types and suspended type
• The principle is the electromagnetism (magnetic levitation)
• It can be the fastest train having speed of about 500 kmph

Causes of rail accidents

• It can be the negligence of railway company, railway employee, government agency or even the equipment manufacturer
• It can be due to the human error caused due to inexperienced conductor or even by the passenger
• Distracted pedestrians and drivers can also be a cause of the accidents
• Rare causes like mechanical failure as well as by defective parts can also lead to accidents
• Fast as well as reckless trains
• Obstruction in tracks which can lead to derailment
• The unprotected railroads are prone to accidents due to low visibility, distracted drivers, obstacles, problems with the signals etc.
• Suicide in track
• Car may get stuck at track

Remedial measures of rail accidents

• People should never get the idea that track is not in active mode (not in use)
• People are not supposed to stop in track (may get stuck)
• At lowered gates people should not drive around and they are supposed to ask for help
• Playing, walking, race with respect to a track should be strictly avoided
• The user should keep in mind the following points while crossing a track:
• Look at both sides of the track
• Stopping of high speed trains require more stopping distance and time
• Truck drivers should keep their trailer jacks lifted up to avoid being stuck
