Scenario - you are feeling increasingly distressed about something/things. You have 10 minutes between obligations. What do you do to help buffer the stress response you've got going on (or that is revving up)?
When a person is stressed the sympathetic nervous system gets activated. The sympathetic nervous system part of the autonomic nervous system, and is responsible for flight and fight responsible. When it is activated the person experiences sweating, anxiety, increased heart and blood pressure. So, to reduce this symptoms, the parasympathetic nervous system need to be activated, which is responsible for relaxing the body
The parasympathetic nervous system can be activated by practicing deep breathing for 10 minutes before the obligations. It is done by inhaling and exhaling slow, and taking in long deliberate breaths. After this the mind will feel calm and relaxed, and also has helps to be better focused at work. Another method which can be used is alternate nostril breathing, in which the person has to pinch one nostril and breathe in from one nostril and exhale from another and then breathing from that nostril.
