What is the relationship between Mintzberg’s roles of management and the functions of management?
There is a causative relationship between Mintzberg's role of management and functions to be performed by the management. It is the role that pushes the managers to deliver functions and help organization work as a system. Mintzberg created 10 roles for the management that is broadly classified into three categories named as information, interpersonal and decisional. Here, decisional role makes managers to perform leading and controlling function where decisions are taken and matrix are established. The informational role is used to make planning function so that information is gathered to perform specific tasks. On a similar note, interpersonal role is used to produce coordinating and organizing function. Hence, the roles are the basis to perform functions, making roles to be the precursor of execution of the function by management.
