In approximately 500 words, describe an example of your leadership.
The ability to be a leader doesn’t come easy. In order to be a leader, a person requires to be able to take tough and rational decisions in difficult situations. For a leader, if the person gets swayed in emotions and lets those emotions dominate over the decision making process, that is referred to as cognitive biases. Moreover, it is required that the leader should be free from prejudices or stereotypes and identify people on the basis of their talent and merits. Moreover, it is important that the leader should keep away personal feelings before dealing with any of these decision making situations.
One such situation was faced by me when I had been the team leader in one of projects. Two teams were appointed, and the team who’s idea would be the best, would be accepted. The team I had to lead contained people from different ethnicities, ages as well as a mixture of cultures. There were many many differences that was there among the team, with some of the team members being prejudiced against the others. Not only were there difference of opinions, but there were also clashes, as one person wanted their idea to be accepted over the other person. This, in fact, led to competition within the team members, rather than competition with the other team.
This led to a huge chaos within the team and destruction of time and productivity. If people engage part of their mind in negativity, how would they be able to concentrate in bringing out ideas. It took a lot of effort to resolve these differences, as bringing out the best idea was the utmost target. I took my team to a session of yoga and meditation following which I called for a dinner at my house. Though, these strategies were informal, they helped in relieving the huge burden of lingering stress. Followed by dinner, which helped in resolving some of the differences, if not all. The next day, things worked out better and the presentation was made by the end of the day.
