Health and safety protocols followed while designing locomotives are:

• Impacts of introducing new works are assessed, new equipments on the whole system is checked for its specs, operation, installation, condition etc. The risks are then eliminated accordingly.
• Any risks that remain after assessment and control must be manageable. All the persons should know their responsibilities and must act together to ensure proper functioning of the system.
• At regular intervals impact of planning and decisions based on designs affecting the whole system must be evaluated and necessary changes must be made to it. All options are to be evaluated at early stage of the project.
• The locomotive runway or railway must be protected from unwanted intrusion and unauthorised access. Tress passing must be prohibited.
• People must be separated from the railways that are operational. People must be safe and separated from risks
• Proper location identification must be provided in the infrastructure.
• The track must be safe for train guidance
• The clearances between trains must be adequate.
• The Earthworks and structures below and above the track must be safe and capable of withstanding force of the train.
• Stations and platforms must be safe for people. Safe waiting should be allowed.
• Fire precautions must be placed around the infrastructure so as to cope with a sudden fire.
• Easy evacuation must be available for people.
