1.Nutrition refers to the type, amount ,quantity of the nutrients received from a diet. The duet refers to the amount or quantity of food consumed .When nutrition and diet both are inadequate or not up-to the standard recommended range it can lead to various life style issues .In simple it can affect the daily life in the following ways

  • It can lead to low level of energy which can suppress the physical and mental activities
  • If the required nutrients are not met it can lead to deficiency ,If it is overeaten it can cause other metabolic or endocrine disorder
  • The risk of obesity ,diabetes , hypertension ,stress, depression ,etc. , can arise if the diet and nutrition are not in the right proportion

2.Diet and nutrition plays a key role in prevention of hypertension during pregnancy by maintaining the fluid balance ,preventing electrolyte imbalance like raise in sodium ,homeostasis ,elimination of wastes via renal system .As a result keeping blood pressure in normal range .

3.The foods which are appropriate for a client with gestational hypertension are as following

  • Vegetables are good source of nutrients and can help to keep blood pressure under control throughout the pregnancy (beans, green leafy vegetables, carrot ,etc. ,)
  • A diet low on sodium, saturated fats ,oily foods can reduce the risk of gestational hypertension
  • Fruits can provide the necessary nutrients to keep the blood pressure under control (banana, orange,melons,guava, apple)
  • Diet rich in milk and milk products can improve the calcium needs
  • Eggs,meat to improve the protein intake
  • Fish to meet certain vitamins and minerals in specific

4.Nutrition and diet is important to a patient

  • To keep blood pressure under control throughout the pregnancy and thereby preventing the risk of pre-eclampsia
  • This can prevent IUGR ,eclampsia in the newborn ,hypertension for the baby in future ,preterm birth ,still birth, etc. ,
  • It can be helpful for the mother to deliver the baby normally I'd diet and nutrition are appropriate in maintaining the blood pressure levels .
