President Franklin issued Executive Order 9066 to imprison Japanese Americans, stating that it was a "military necessity." In the reading above, Takaki argues that Japanese imprisonment during World War II was not necessary. What evidence does he provide?
1) The book by Ronald Takaki reveals the immigration of the asian people into america during those times in search of jobs and employment for attaining money under the laws of the labor system. The americans were involved in a struggle during those days to combat japan from the attack on the pearl habour in australia. There were many japanese americans who were loyal and agreed to help america in the struggle to overcome japan. Over 130,000 japanese-american men joined the american army and many volunteered for the work of making parachutes and providing arms and maintaining them by serving in the army. The americans prohibited the entry of asians in america during those times due to the war with japan and they also prevented japanese people from entering america by signing of the gentlemen treaty with them. This treaty prohibited the entry of japanese in the american territory. The labor system in Hawai proliferated by providing jobs and money to the laborers in the plantation system. The executive order of 9066 was issued which issued the necessity of ordering the reallocation of the japanese-american people in the army by providing them imtelligence and manpower to fight against the growing invasion of japan on pearl harbor. Various war footages and media were shown to the common people in america of the japanese-american army men conquering and fighting against the japanese and eagerly waiting for victory.
2) The media covered the documentary reports of the war brutalities faced by the chinese civilans due to the invasion of japan, and the misdeeds and misfortune faced by the american prisoner of wars in philippines. The media showed the coverages of the misadventures of the japanese people engaged in conquering and declaring war in parts of vietnam, korea, indonesia and philippines. The accounts of people bron in japan and living in america were frozen and sealed with the arrest of prominent big japanese-american in america. The americans extracted money from japanese by forcing them to sale their lands, possessions, vaulables and assets and provide them huge amounts of money if they wanted to live in america and regular expenditure and educational costs in a foreign country. The japanese-american were taken to deserted lands where they were kept in temporary buildings and camps with unhygienic and unhealthy conditions. They were provided cheap clothing and fooding with constant vigilance and left to degrade by providing extremely harsh conditions. This happended during the period of crisis in world war-I. Other italian american and german american men were also kept in extremely tough and threatening conditions. They were kept as servants in army for the maintenance of the living of the army men in america. Several criminal unjustice cases were filed by the japanese men against the american government during those times while serving the american country during 1940's.
