convert ratio to volum ratio for the orginak distillation mixture? molar ratio = 0.936 cyclohexane : 84 g/mol toluene:92 g/mol ml?

Solutions

Expert Solution

Molar mass of cyclohexane = 84 g/mol

So, 1 mol of cyclohexane = 84 g

Molar mass of toluene = 92 g/mol

So, 1 mol of toluene = 92 g

Molar ratio of cyclohexane to toluene = 0.936 : 1

Suppose, cyclohexane = 0.936 mole and toluene = 1 mole

Now,

1 mol of cyclohexane = 84 g

0.936 mol of cyclohexane = 0.936 x 84 g = 78.624 g

Density of cyclohexane = 0.778 g/mL

Volume = Mass / Density

= 78.624 g / (0.778 g/mL)

= 101.06 mL

and

1 mol of toluene = 92 g

Density of toluene = 0.87 g/mL

Volume = Mass / Density

= 92 g / (0.87 g/mL)

= 105.75 mL

So, volume ratio of cyclohexane to toluene = 101.06 : 105.75

= 0.956
