1. Explain in detail why it is detrimental to a pediatric patient the use of preservatives
2. In your own words explain what is "pediatric dosing
1. The labelled preservatives as parabens, benzalkonium chloride, benzoic acid, benzyl alcohol, boric acid and ethanol, that are used for their anti-microbial properties and preserves the medical preparations. They show biological activities against the microbes and some effect is also seen in mammalian cells. In adults these effect may not be very significant, but, in pediatric patients, factors age, body weight, body surface area, and their developmental process, it could have adverse effects. The use of preservatives due to these factors makes them vulnerable to carcinogen, mutagen and reproductive risks.
2. "Pediatric dosing" is determining correct amount of medication, the number, and time interval between the doses of medications that to be administered on pediatric patients, according to their age, age, weight, body surface area, and ability of the child to absorb, metabolize, and excrete the medication, as well as the expected action of the drug, possible side effects, and potential toxicity.
