What are some differences between the production of glycolysis and gluconeogenesis, and why does gluconeogenesis require a higher amount of ATP? Utilize examples and explain thoroughly the differences.
Difference between the production of glycolysis and gluconeogenesis.
Glycolysis
Def:- Breakdown of glucose by enzymes, thereby releasing energy and pyuria acid.
Glycolysis starts with glucose and ends in pyruvate.
Here, when glucose is broken, glycolysis generates two molecules of:-
So, these energy molecules from glucose is used for cell, thereby leading to an increase in energy.
Net Increase in energy
Gluconeogenesis
Def:- It is defined as a sequence of metabolic reactions which glucose from sources like Amino acid/ pyrunic acid
