When functionalists analyze a situation, they identify its functions and dysfunctions. What functions nad dysfunctions of maquiladoras do you see? (Maquiladoras South of the Border)

Solutions

Expert Solution

Functionalist believe that the society made up of interconnected parts that function together in order to maintain stability and peace among the parts. Maquiladora are manufacturing facilities in special economic zones in Mexico that import raw materials for assembling, processing or manufacturing from different countries on a duty free basis.

On a positive note, Maquiladora provides job opportunities to more number of people in the special economic zone manufacturing plants. Young women are considered to be the wanted ones for jobs in these facilities. Instead of living in poverty and increased crime rate, we can consider these facilities as pay masters which keep people away from poverty and crime.

On a dysfunction note, these facilities are not conducive for the women workforce to work as they don’t have proper sanitary facilities because most of the workforce in the facilities are women. Wages are very less when compared to other nations and the working hours are more.
