Please answer the following:
A) what are the four main tissue types and the origin of epithelium from the germ layers.
B) Functions of the epithelium.
C) Classification of epithelium, how are they classified?
D) What is unique about pseudostratified? Transitional? Where in the body would you find such types of epithelia?
Four main tissue types are muscle, epithelial , connective and nervous . Epithelium can be derived from ectoderm ( epidermis of skin) , mesoderm ( lining of body cavities ) , endoderm (lining of gut )
Functions of epithelium - protection from outside harmful substmaces and barrier tomoathogens , secretion of sweat snd temeprature control , absorption of various nutrients, sensory reception via various receptors located in the epithelium .
Based on cell shape it is classified as squamous, columnar , cuboidal . Based on number of layers it is straified , simple, pseudostraified .
in pseudostraifies a single cell layer is arranged in such a way that it gives appearnace of multiple layers due to position of nuclei .It is found in repsiratory pathways like lining of trachea .
transitional epithelium consists of cells which change shapes as per the amount of distenstion they are subjected to . They are found in bladder.
