1H Part 2 How do the kidneys assist the body in maintaining homeostasis in terms of its blood pH level?
1H Part 3 How do the kidneys assist the body in maintaining homeostasis in terms of the body’s ion and electrolyte balance?
1H Part 4 How do the kidneys assist the body in maintaining homeostasis in terms of blood pressure?
1H Part 5 What substances do the kidney’s filter and what is the name of the bi-product they create in doing so?
1H Part 6 What part/s of the urinary system is responsible for carrying the bi-product (created by the kidney in filtering other substances) to the urinary bladder?
1H Part 7 What part of the urinary system is responsible for carrying the bi-product (created by the kidney in filtering other substances) from the urinary bladder to the opening where it can be eliminated from the body?
Part 1: Kidney is responsible for the filtration of the blood. It maintains the fluid level and hydration of the body by regulating the excretion and reabsorption of the water through the kidney tubules. ADH is the hormone released from the pituitary gland that causes water reabsorption from the kidney thus help in regulating fluid blance.
Part 2: Kidney is responsible for the excretion of H+ ion into the urine from the blood. Also it reabsorbs the bicarbonate ion formed in the filtrate from the H2O And CO2. This reabsorption of bicarbonate and excretion of H+ ion helps in regulation of the blood pH.
Part 3: Kidney is also responsible for reabsorption of various ions and excretion of other ions in order to maintain the homeostasis. It reabsorbs Sodium, chloride, calcium phosphate ions and excrete hydrogen and potassium ions. Depending upon the need by the body, it alters the excretion and reabsorption of various ions.
Part 4: Kidney assists in maintaining the blood pressure by releasing Renin which helps in formation of angiotensins which are vasoconstrictors. It also assists in blood pressure homeostasis by regulating the blood volume.
Part 5: Kidney filters the Plasma except the plasma proteins. It filters the ions, small solutes, drugs, metabolic waste products and water. They form the filtrate in this process.
Part 6: Ureter carries these filtrate so called urine from kidney to the urinary bladder.
Part 7: Urethra carries the urine from urinary bladder to outside the body.
