Key beliefs and practices:
The religion I see with the most similarities is Islam. Both Sikhism and Islam share many beliefs and the three that stand out are idol worship, the idea of God, and charity. Idol worship is not accepted in either religions, as they both reject the idea that an idol replaces God. The concept of God is a shared between both as they believe there is one God and the religions are monotheistic, they use different names for God but same ideas. Charity is a part of the foundation for both in helping others and making sure that you live a life of service.
The Kara is the one that stands out to me the most. The idea that it symbolizes restraint and gentility while also being a physical representation as a link to the Guru is very cool. It makes me think of wearing a cross or a rosary (I grew up Catholic) as a symbol to remind yourself of religious path. A few other concepts about the Kara I found interesting is that it is a symbol of God’s eternity and that it is made with steel because it is not meant to be a decoration.
