Are sex chromosomes only found in germ cells (i.e., gametes or sex cells)? Explain.
Germ cells are the cells which contains gametes and sex cells. Each and every cell in the body has a full chromosome except of the gametes because they contain only haploid (n) amount.
Where as the somatic cells made organs of the body and give rise to sperm and egg. Somatic cells are sexually reproducing organisms which gives diploid amount of chromosomes one set is from offspring by ova and other sperm. In humans there are 23 pairs and last pair is sex chromosomes and the are indicated by XX chromosome for female and XY for male offspring.
Therefore the somatic cells definately conatining sex chromosomes but germ cells that is gametes and sex cells which are created for the purpose of reproduction. Germ cells are produced by cell division process called as meiosis which produce haploid number of chromosomes. When ova and egg is fertized we get 23+23 chromosome and starting of new person.
