describe the path of food through the digestive system and explain each organs role in the digestive process? what are some factors that influence digestion?
Digestive system is a one of the system of the body that helps to provide vitamins, minerals, nutrition and fluids, energy to the body. The pathway of food in the digestive system takes place by ingestion process where the food is entered through the mouth and mechanical digestion takes place by breaking down the macro substance to micro substance using the teeth and salivary amylase and forms into bolus. Then the bolus travel to pharynx and then esophagus where the peristalsis movement occurs. And the bolus reaches the stomach the chemical digestion takes place. In chemical digestion the gastric juices act on the bolus. In stomach the bolus transformed to chyme and the cyme propels down to the small intestine.
In small intestine the chyme enters into the duodenum where the pancreatic secretion and bile from the gall bladder and liver act on the chyme to break the lipids and protein. And then the absorption of vitamins, nutrients and minerals takes place in jejunum of small intestine by the structure known as villi. And in the ileum the absorption takes place and gives the fullfillness hormone.
Then the food particles move to large intestine where the essential water and salts are absorbed and then the waste particles are separated. Then through rectum the waste feces are excreted and this process named as egestion.
The factors that affect digestion are:
Temperatures of the body, normal gastric function, type of food that we intake, eating frequency, liquid intake, more condiment food, food quality, stress and sleep pattern all will influence the digestion in various manner.
